ALDEGUER AND FENATI CLOSED SPANISH QUALIFYING IN SECOND AND NINTH ROW

The second day of the Spanish Grand Prix has just ended at the Jerez-Àngel Nieto circuit. Fermin Aldeguer and Romano Fenati finished the Spanish qualifying in fifth and twenty-seventh position and will start tomorrow respectively from the second and ninth row of the starting grid.

Aldeguer finished the free practices with the seventh time in 1’41.767 just +0.211 from the first, gaining direct access to Q2. In the FP3, the number 54 proved to be fast and with a constant pace as in qualifying. The first to leave the garage and start the 15 minutes of Q2 was the young Spaniard who with a time of 1’41.620 sealed the fifth position as well as the second row of tomorrow’s race.

On the other hand, the Spanish Saturday was more complicated for Romano, although the growth in driving the Boscoscuro bike during the weekend. Fenati and his team were unable to find the fastest lap to go directly to Q2 and therefore had to face Q1. The lack of grip at the rear in qualifying did not allow the number 5 to go beyond the twenty-seventh time (1’42.964), stopping at the ninth row of the Spanish Grand Prix grid.

“In the end, I’m super happy with how this day went. The sensations have improved a lot compared to yesterday and so tomorrow I feel ready to end this weekend in the best possible way. Starting from the front is really very important tomorrow and I believe that with the pace we have shown today we can fight!”.

ROMANO FENATI #5: 27

“Unfortunately today the track conditions changed and I didn’t have the same feeling as yesterday at the rear. We tried a change but it didn’t go as we hoped and so we’re trying to figure out how to find the good sensations we had on track yesterday. As always, we will give our best in the race aiming to make up positions right from the start and with the points area as the main objective”.

ALGARVE WEATHER AFFECTS THE FIRST DAY OF PORTUGUESE GP FREE PRACTICES

The Grande Prémio de Portugal has begun at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve, the first round of the Moto2 World Championship in Europe and the fifth of the 2022 season.

The weather affected both free practice sessions of the first day with wind and pouring rain. Few riders on track during FP1 in the morning when Romano took five laps, closing the session with the ninth fastest time in 2’10.009, while Aldeguer completed only three laps, finishing the FP1 in eighth position, 2’07.986 his time.

Extreme conditions also in the second free practice session in which wind and light rain put a strain on the LighTech SpeedUp riders. Positive feedback for team 5 which with a slight change made great strides. 2’03.098 Romano’s best time at the end of the day who with more determination and confidence on the Boscoscuro bike took fifteenth place, a step away from the provisional Q2.

Aldeguer’s FP2 ended after a few laps due to a crash at turn 1. Fortunately, he was unharmed, but no chance for him to return to the track due to too much damage to the bike. 2’04.721 his best time and p23 in the combined standings.

ROMANO FENATI #5: 16th

“First positive day for us despite the difficult track conditions. The sensations with the bike improved from FP1 to FP2 as did our lap time. We have to work on the rear grip, but we are especially confident with the progress achieved today!”.

FERMÍN ALDEGUER #54: 23rd

“First day complicated due to track conditions. In FP1 it was raining very hard and we decided not to go beyond the few laps we did so as not to take risks. In the afternoon we thought that conditions would improve and that with less rain we could ride better, but the track was still very treacherous and halfway through a crash put an end to our day. We hope that the weather will be better tomorrow so that we can take full advantage of the third free practice!”.
